Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is one of the largest and oldest technological universities in Lithuania. KTU research is carried out by about 1000 academic staff, whose research groups are located in 9 faculties and 8 research institutes. The University has accumulated a long and successful experience in implementing science and innovation project activities, ensuring quality project management and administration expertise. Carrying out 70% of all the R&D provided by Lithuanian universities, it offers innovations for business and industry at national and international level. KTU is a founder of two Integrated Science, Studies and Business Valleys that provide open access to well-equipped laboratory spaces. KTU is a leading university in Lithuania by participation in European research programmes such as HORIZON 2020, 7 FP, 6 FP, 5 FP, EUREKA, EUROSTARS, INTERREG, COST and others. KTU is also a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, a group of research-intensive universities that focus on innovation, creativity and societal impact in the transition to a knowledge-based economy.
The Institute of Environmental Engineering (APINI) integrated part of KTU, since its establishment in 1991 is multidisciplinary research institute, who has built up an international reputation for quality environmental research and innovative teaching for three decades. The innovations developed by APINI are responsive to the needs of the national economy and the International research market and built upon past success. The institute seeks critical evaluation and innovations in its learning, teaching, research, management, and other activities, propagates innovative technologies, fosters the development of the knowledge society, and actively furthers the preparation of the national long-term development strategy. The research activities of the institute reflect the specific experiences of the involved researches, realises important synergies, and gives preference to the best available innovations in the field of sustainable development and circular economy.
